Building Future Leaders Through Sport
At Border Icons in Sport, we believe sport is not just a game — it's a classroom for leadership, service, and transformation. Our Capacity Development program exists to ensure our coaches, mentors, and young leaders are equipped with the tools to uplift communities with both heart and skill.
One of our most successful collaborations took place in July 2024, during the Khanya Holiday Programme. Hosted in Buffalo Flats, this initiative saw over 130 learners engaged in workshops on hygiene, personal growth, domestic violence, and teamwork — all delivered through a dynamic mix of discussion, play, and physical activity. Our BIS team facilitated daily fitness sessions and helped shape the curriculum, ensuring the link between life skills and sport stayed strong.
Later that month, we co-hosted a Youth Engagement Workshop with Khanya Centre, where young people voiced challenges around poverty, peer pressure, and violence — and shaped their own solutions. From this, a youth committee was born. Our goal isn’t just to engage — it’s to empower.
In partnership with the Greater Buffalo Flats Sports Confederation, BIS also supports long-term development by offering workshops in sport administration, data management, coaching, and mental resilience — guided by the "3 P's" philosophy: Purpose, Passion, and Plan. We help grassroots clubs build MAPs for success — Master Action Plans — with proper governance, strategic planning, and leadership structure.
Whether it's teaching a child to lead warm-ups or helping a coach draft a constitution, Capacity Development is our investment in generational change. Because a great community doesn’t just play — it grows, leads, and gives back.
